Loveland Approves McWhinney Drilling plan
The application to drill and frack a site the eastern edge of the new Centerra development (6 miles east of the city center) has been approved after a year of negotiations. The city of Loveland placed 23 restrictions on the project in an attempt to protect the community and environment from harm.
This newly approved site is one of two locations originally proposed for directional drilling directly underneath the 140 acre residential and commercial real estate venture owned by Chad and Troy McWhinney. The application to frack at the Centerra South drill site was withdrawn in March of 2023 and faced strong opposition from the community. The conditional approval to frack the eastern Centerra site was granted to MRG, LLC, a subsidiary of McWhinney. The project is now awaiting final approval from the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission (formerly the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission).
