Earth Day Cleanup at Aurora Reservoir

On April 19, we joined Save the Aurora Reservoir (STAR) and the City of Aurora for a special Earth Day celebration. It was part Bioblitz, part trail cleanup, and entirely full of great energy. Volunteers young and old fanned out across the Aurora Reservoir trails and the banks of the reservoir to document the incredible wildlife calling the reservoir home, spotting bald eagles, pronghorn, ducks, and geese along the way. It was a beautiful reminder of just how much thrives here when we take the time to look.

With gloves on and trash bags in hand, we got to work along the trails, hauling out everything from fishing lures to stray socks. The city provided all the supplies we needed, from equipment to coffee and snacks, making it easy to just show up and pitch in. The atmosphere was exactly what community stewardship is all about: neighbors of all ages working side by side toward something that matters.

We had some special guest speakers, including Colorado District 61 State Representative Eliza Hamrick and activist Nelson Holland, who you can find online as @fatblackandgettinit.

We’re so glad we had the chance to support this effort and spend a morning doing something meaningful alongside such a great group of people.
